The Waves Clinical Approach

Every therapy session at Waves is grounded in the understanding that your symptoms are not the problem - they are your nervous system's best attempt at protection. Our work together is about helping your nervous system learn that it is safe to do something different.

We work somatically - meaning we pay attention to what your body is holding, not just what your mind is saying. We work in phases - building safety and stabilisation before moving into trauma processing. We work relationally - because the therapeutic relationship itself is part of the healing.

This is trauma-informed, attachment-informed, anti-oppressive practice. It is nervous system-aware, body-aware and deeply respectful of the complexity of your life.

Waves operates on the traditional territories of the Haudenosaunee, Anishinaabe, and Huron-Wendat peoples, and the home of the Métis Nation. This land is covered by the Dish With One Spoon Wampum Belt Covenant, an agreement to share and care for the resources around the Great Lakes. We are grateful to live and work on this territory and we honour the resilience and continued presence of Indigenous peoples across Turtle Island.
