Perimenopause Support at Waves Psychotherapy

For the woman who suddenly wants to rage-clean her house, cry in the car, cancel every plan, and Google “am I losing my mind?” before breakfast.

Perimenopause is not “just hormones.” It can feel like your nervous system has filed a formal complaint against your schedule, your relationships, your sleep, your workload, your waistband, and the sound of someone chewing too loudly in another room.

At Waves Psychotherapy, perimenopause support focuses on the emotional, mental, relational, and nervous system side of this transition. This is a space to understand what is happening, reduce shame, build coping tools, and reconnect with yourself during a stage of life that can feel wildly unfamiliar.

What kind of therapy does Waves Psychotherapy offer?

Waves Psychotherapy offers trauma-informed, somatic, attachment-informed, anti-oppressive psychotherapy. Sessions may include nervous system support, psychoeducation, emotional regulation skills, parts-informed work, narrative reflection, CBT-informed strategies, DBT-informed tools, and phase-based trauma work.

The Waves Clinical Approach

Every therapy session at Waves is grounded in the understanding that your symptoms are not the problem - they are your nervous system's best attempt at protection. Our work together is about helping your nervous system learn that it is safe to do something different.

We work somatically - meaning we pay attention to what your body is holding, not just what your mind is saying. We work in phases - building safety and stabilisation before moving into trauma processing. We work relationally - because the therapeutic relationship itself is part of the healing.

This is trauma-informed, attachment-informed, anti-oppressive practice. It is nervous system-aware, body-aware and deeply respectful of the complexity of your life.

Waves operates on the traditional territories of the Haudenosaunee, Anishinaabe, and Huron-Wendat peoples, and the home of the Métis Nation. This land is covered by the Dish With One Spoon Wampum Belt Covenant, an agreement to share and care for the resources around the Great Lakes. We are grateful to live and work on this territory and we honour the resilience and continued presence of Indigenous peoples across Turtle Island.
