About Waves Psychotherapy in Ajax, Ontario

My Journey

With over 25 years of experience, I offer psychotherapy in Ajax, Ontario that is inclusive, accessible, and deeply person centred. My services are available both online and in person, giving you flexibility and choice in how you receive support.

My career has included work in mental health, developmental and intellectual disabilities, children and families, and family development. Accessibility and advocacy have always been at the heart of my practice. With a background in linguistics and a degree in ASL–English Interpreting, I bring unique expertise in supporting the Deaf and Deafblind communities, including the use of ProTactile communication. These experiences inspired the creation of Waves Psychotherapy, which grew from my earlier projects Reflective Rainbows and Visual Voices. Both were dedicated to creativity, inclusion, and accessibility, values that continue to shape Waves today.

My Approach

Waves is more than a practice. It is a therapeutic space guided by integrative evidence-based therapies such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Internal Family Systems (IFS), Narrative Therapy, Schema Therapy, and mindfulness with creative and multisensory approaches. These include art therapy, play therapy, sensory therapy, Snoezelen-inspired multisensory methods, and nature-based therapy. Many clients find that art and sensory therapies offer a lighter, more approachable way to explore emotions, making the journey of healing less overwhelming and more engaging.

Training and Professional Development

Lifelong learning is central to my work. I hold a Diploma in Social Service Work (SSW), a Diploma in Addictions Medicine, and certificates in Human Trafficking, Gender Based Violence, Dementia Training, Refugee Mental Health, and Multisensory Therapy.

My professional development includes training with Wilfrid Laurier University, the University of Sheffield, McMaster University, Psychology Canada, Johns Hopkins University, the Ministry of Justice in British Columbia, and Yale University.

My Specialties

I provide online and in-person counselling and psychotherapy in Ajax, Ontario for individuals, families, and communities.

My areas of focus include:

  • Perinatal and Postnatal Mental Health – supporting parents through pregnancy, postpartum, and the early years of parenting.

  • Perimenopause and Midlife Transitions helping clients manage hormonal, emotional, and identity changes with compassion and practical strategies.

  • Trauma Therapy – offering safe, supportive care for those healing from childhood, relational, or intergenerational trauma.

  • Therapy for Disabilities – specializing in support for developmental, intellectual, physical, and neurodiverse needs, as well as providing accessible therapy for Deaf and Deafblind clients.

I also support clients with addictions, stress, anxiety, parenting challenges, and family dynamics.

Leadership and Community Work

Beyond the therapy room, my work in education, leadership, and advocacy has strengthened the way I support clients. I have designed and taught post-secondary curriculum in Developmental Disabilities and Community Support Work, ensuring future professionals are well-equipped to provide inclusive care. I have also supervised students and emerging therapists, which keeps me engaged with new research, fresh perspectives, and innovative practices that I bring back into my own sessions.

My experience in management roles within community services has deepened my ability to navigate complex systems and advocate effectively for clients and their families. In addition, I have organized and led fundraisers and grassroots initiatives to expand resources for families and local communities. These leadership experiences not only reflect my commitment to advocacy but also enhance the depth of support I can provide to clients, connecting them to broader networks of care and community resilience.
